A free Rhode Island DMV permit practice test

You get 20 free questions here, each written from the Driver’s Manual of the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The real exam has 40 questions and a 90-minute limit, and the DMV doesn’t publish a pass mark, so on this Rhode Island DMV permit practice test we set our own target: 15 of 20. Pick an answer to see why it’s right, and the questions you miss come back at the end.

Question 1 of 20

The manual compares being awake for 20 hours to driving with which blood alcohol concentration?

20 practice questions in the style of the permit test.

How close is this Rhode Island DMV permit practice test to the real exam?

Both are multiple choice. This one is half the length, and these questions are ours, not the DMV’s, so treat a good score as a sign you’re on track rather than a promise.

They run from drowsy driving in chapter II through stopping, turns and phones in chapter III, signs and signals in chapter IV, then emergencies, motorcycles, school buses and the alcohol limits.

What to study after the practice questions

Look up each question you missed in the manual, then read the whole chapter around it. The where-to-learn page has a study plan, the driver education rules for under-18s and the DMV’s program for supervised driving.
