The 9th grade column is for students who tested in 8th grade. The 10th grade column is NYCPS’s separate list for 10th grade seats, which go to students who tested in 9th grade. Schools are in the order NYCPS lists them.
NYCPS lists 652 for both The Bronx High School of Science and The Brooklyn Latin School in its 10th grade table, while every other 10th grade figure is between 530 and 562. Check those two with NYCPS at HSEnrollment@schools.nyc.gov before relying on them.
How are SHSAT cutoff scores set?
Offers go out in order of SHSAT score. The highest scorer gets an offer to their first-choice school, then the next highest, and so on. When a student’s first choice is full, they’re considered for their second choice, then their third, until every seat at every school is filled. A school’s cutoff is simply the score of the last student it offered a seat to.
So a cutoff depends on that year’s scores, how many seats each school has, and how students ranked the schools. NYCPS doesn’t publish next year’s cutoffs in advance.
What score do you need for Stuyvesant, Bronx Science or Brooklyn Tech?
NYCPS doesn’t set a required score. For fall 2026, the last 9th grade offers went at 561 for Stuyvesant, 525 for The Bronx High School of Science and 506 for Brooklyn Technical High School. You’re also only considered for schools you list when you register, so a score above a school’s cutoff doesn’t help if that school isn’t on your list.
Below every cutoff: the Discovery program
Some students from high-poverty schools or areas who score within a range below the lowest cutoff can be invited to Discovery, a summer program that leads to a seat.
