CIRO exam fee, retakes and attempt limits

A first attempt at an exam set by the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) costs $475, and a second or third attempt in the same enrolment period costs $300 each. You pay the CIRO exam fee when you enrol, and that payment starts an enrolment period of up to 12 months.

How much is the CIRO exam fee?

CIRO’s candidate page listed these fees in November 2026:

ItemFee
First attempt$475
Second attempt$300
Third attempt$300

You pay through CIRO’s Enrolment Portal, and dealers may pay for their candidates through Firm Portal access. CIRO says its proficiency model has reduced the cost of examination.

How attempts and retakes work

In one enrolment period you may make up to three attempts at the exam, and the second and third each cost the $300 retake fee.

If you attempt and fail an exam three times within six months, a cooling-off period of six months applies.

What about course fees?

CIRO’s fees are for its own exams, and its proficiency model doesn’t require any prep course. The fees for a course, such as the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), are set by whoever offers it.

A course you enrolled in before 2026 may count under CIRO’s transition rule, which the overview explains.
