CIRE practice exam questions

We wrote these 20 questions ourselves, each with four options, on topics from all nine elements of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Exam (CIRE) syllabus, from regulation and client accounts to bonds, options and ethics. They don’t come from the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), which sets the exam, or from its own practice exam. Use this CIRE practice exam as a quick check of what you know, with an explanation after every answer.

  • 4Options on each question
  • 20Questions, each with an explanation
  • 15 of 20Our own target, not a CIRO pass mark
Question 1 of 20

Which organization oversees investment dealers and mutual fund dealers across Canada, as well as trading on Canada’s debt and equity marketplaces?

20 practice questions we wrote ourselves, on Canadian investment topics.

How to use these CIRE practice questions

Answer each question, then read why the right answer is right. If an explanation doesn’t click, ask the tutor for another one. The ones you miss come back at the end.

Aim for 15 of 20. That’s our 75% target, not a CIRO pass mark. Each question names the syllabus learning outcome it comes from, so you can look the topic up.

Where is CIRO’s own CIRE practice exam?

CIRO publishes a practice exam for the CIRE on its CIRE page, with the syllabus and the guide for studying. Its guide says the practice exam was designed to represent the type and breadth of the questions on the real exam.

The guide suggests using it informally when you start studying, to get used to the questions, then formally when you think you’re ready. It also advises against memorizing its questions.
