MCCQE dates for 2027 and how to schedule your seat

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) runs the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) in four sessions in 2027, starting January 19 and ending October 26. The MCCQE dates are windows of several weeks, and you pick your own day within one by booking a Prometric test centre seat. Booking opens about 5 months before a session starts, once the MCC has accepted your application.

When are the MCCQE dates in 2027?

SessionExam dates
January 2027January 19 to February 11, 2027
April 2027April 27 to June 1, 2027
August 2027August 10 to September 7, 2027
October 2027October 5 to 26, 2027

The MCC says dates are subject to change and that it can’t guarantee you a particular day. If you need your result by a deadline, it strongly recommends taking the exam early enough to allow for the unexpected.

How to schedule the MCCQE

  1. Apply in your physiciansapply.ca account. Applications are open all year, and the MCC takes up to 4 weeks to process one.
  2. Wait for the message saying you’re eligible. That starts a 12-month eligibility window. For students, the window starts 12 months before the expected graduation date.
  3. Book online on Prometric’s MCC page, inside one of the sessions. Booking for a session opens about 5 months before it starts.
  4. Keep the 16-digit confirmation number Prometric emails you. Prometric also sends a reminder about seven days before your appointment.

With an approved test accommodation you book online in the usual way. If you need wheelchair access, the MCC says to phone Prometric’s accommodation team for your region instead.

Where you can take it: Prometric test centres

The MCCQE is given at Prometric test centres in Canada and over 70 other countries. Remotely proctored appointments are no longer offered, so every candidate sits the exam in person.

Not sure where your centre is? Use the Confirm option on Prometric’s website with your 16-digit number. The MCC can’t see that number, so if you lose it you have to ask Prometric.

Rescheduling, cancelling and extending your window

You reschedule or cancel on Prometric’s website, up to 120 hours before your appointment. Prometric charges $35 (CAD) plus HST (harmonized sales tax) if you change up to 31 days before, and $75 (CAD) plus HST if you change less than 30 days before. Cancel with less than 120 hours to go, or miss the appointment, and you lose your application fee.

If you won’t be ready in time, you can extend your eligibility window once, by another 12 months. The option opens when your window is within 60 days of expiring, and the MCC sends instructions to your account. Let a window run out without writing or extending, and the MCC withdraws you with a partial refund.
