How to take it at a DriveTest Centre
- Find your nearest DriveTest Centre and check its hours on drivetest.ca.
- Gather your original ID, the fee and your glasses if you wear them.
- Get there at least an hour before closing. Go even earlier on Saturdays and school holidays, when it’s busiest.
- At the counter, show your ID, fill in the forms and pay. Then do the eye test and the written test.
Booking in Toronto
You can walk into any DriveTest Centre in the Toronto area, with no appointment, just like anywhere else in Ontario.
If you’d rather go downtown, ServiceOntario at 777 Bay Street (lower level, at Bay and College) also gives the G1 test, but only by appointment. It doesn’t take walk-ins for written tests. Check the location page before you go.
When you do need an appointment
If you need the test read to you by staff, or want a foreign-language or sign-language interpreter, you have to book that at a DriveTest Centre ahead of time. The computer test’s audio option doesn’t need booking. Just ask for headphones on the day.
Road tests are booked, though
Your G2 road test comes later, once you’ve held your G1 for 12 months, or 8 with an approved driving course. That one needs a booking: online, by phone at 647-776-0331 or 1-888-570-6110, or at any DriveTest Centre. Cancel at least 48 hours ahead or you lose the fee.
