Find your nearest centre
- Open DriveTest’s Find a DriveTest Centre page, or the alphabetical list if you already know the town.
- Pick the closest centre and check its hours for the day you want to go.
- Get there at least an hour before it closes. Go earlier on Saturdays and school holidays, when lines are longest.
- Bring your ID, the $159.75 fee and your glasses if you drive with them.
Full-time centres and Travel Points
Full-time DriveTest Centres are open on regular weekly hours, and you can walk in for the G1 test, first come, first served.
A Travel Point is a part-time DriveTest Centre that serves a smaller town, often from a shared local building. It’s only open on certain dates, so check its schedule on drivetest.ca or phone ahead before you make the trip.
Toronto, Brampton, Hamilton and London
DriveTest lists full-time centres in Brampton, Hamilton and London, and three in Toronto: Downsview, Etobicoke and Metro East. Any of them will take you for the G1 without booking.
Addresses and hours do change, so look the centre up on drivetest.ca the day before you go rather than trusting an old map listing.
Can you take the G1 at ServiceOntario?
Usually not. ontario.ca names just one ServiceOntario location for the knowledge test: Bay and College, on the lower level of 777 Bay Street in downtown Toronto. It gives written tests by appointment only and doesn’t take walk-ins for them.
ServiceOntario doesn’t give road tests at all. Those are booked through DriveTest and taken at DriveTest Centres and Travel Points.
