A shop displays a coat in its window with a price label of £80. A customer goes in, says “I accept your offer”, and holds out £80. The shop says the price label is wrong and refuses to sell. What is the legal position?
20 practice questions in the style of the assessment.
How to use these 20 questions
Questions 1 to 4 are contract and tort, 5 and 6 the legal system and constitutional law, 7 and 8 business law, 9 and 10 civil litigation, and 11 and 12 ethics. Then come property (13 and 14), wills and estates (15 and 16), trusts (17), criminal law (18), criminal litigation (19) and solicitors accounts (20). They test settled rules of the law of England and Wales.
Give yourself about 1 minute 48 seconds a question, the pace of an SQE1 session from January 2027. Aim for 15 right, which is 75%. That’s our own target, not the SRA’s: the pass mark is a scaled 300 out of 500, and the Assessment Board sets the raw mark behind it for each paper. If an answer doesn’t click, ask the tutor to explain it another way.
Where can you find more SQE practice questions?
The SRA gives away 220 SQE1 sample questions on the SQE website, some used in previous exam papers, and 10 SQE2 tasks with answers. Those come from the people who set the exam, so work through them too. Our 20 don’t come from the SRA or Kaplan, and they cover SQE1 only.
