| AP Career Kickstart | Business with Personal Finance, Cybersecurity |
There’s no AP Sociology, Korean, Russian, Film, Forensics, Engineering or Physical Education course. If a school calls a class by one of those names, it isn’t an official AP course with an AP Exam.
What’s new
AP Business with Personal Finance and AP Cybersecurity are the AP Career Kickstart courses, with exams on May 4 and May 5, 2027. There’s also an AP Networking exam on May 7, but only at the pilot schools teaching it in 2026-27.
How do you get into AP classes?
Choose from the AP classes your school offers and talk to your teacher or school counselor about signing up. Ask them which grades can take which classes, since that’s up to your school, and whether a course needs another one first.
Once you’re in, your teacher gives you a join code for My AP. Joining your class section opens AP Classroom and is also how you register for the exam.
If your school doesn’t offer the class you want
Some schools and online programs teach AP courses online. You can also study on your own. Either way, you need a school that gives AP Exams to order yours with an exam-only join code.
Do AP classes help your GPA and college credit?
College Board says taking an AP course and exam can boost your GPA, but how your school weights AP grades is its own rule, so ask.
College credit comes from your AP Exam score, not your class grade. Nearly all colleges and universities in the US give credit and placement for qualifying scores, and each one sets which scores count.
