CSET Multiple Subjects: three subtests for the Multiple Subject credential

It’s three subtests, and you need 220 on each. CSET: Multiple Subjects is the exam route to California’s Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Subtest I covers reading, language, literature, history and social science. Subtest II covers science and math. Subtest III covers physical education, human development and the visual and performing arts.

Can you take all three CSET Multiple Subjects subtests in one day?

At a test center you can book one subtest or all three in a single 5-hour session. In that session the subtests aren’t timed one by one, and you can take them in any order. All three together cost $247, against $99 each on their own.

Online, only Subtests I and III are offered, each in its own session at $99 with no breaks. Subtest II is test-center only, so you’ll need a center for that one.

You need all three subtests for the credential, but not on the same day. Each subtest you pass counts on its own.

Multiple Subjects plus Writing Skills replaces the CBEST

If you pass all three CSET Multiple Subjects subtests and CSET: Writing Skills (test 142, $63), you’ve also met the basic skills requirement, so you don’t need the CBEST.

Free official practice for each subtest

Pearson publishes a test guide, the subject matter requirements, sample questions with sample written answers, and a full practice test for each of Subtests I, II and III. Our own 20 practice questions are CBEST-style, so use Pearson’s practice tests for Multiple Subjects.
