What counts as a good GMAT score for an MBA?
Look up each school’s class profile for the scores it admitted. That range is the target that matters, and the middle of it is a sensible aim.
Our reading of GMAC’s August 2026 percentile table: the 86th percentile falls between 645 (85.6%) and 655 (89.6%). The 44th percentile falls between 545 and 555, and the 99th between 725 and 735. Those conversions are ours, made from GMAC’s table, not figures GMAC gives.
Is a 600, 650 or 700 a good GMAT score?
On the current exam, 600 and 650 aren’t possible, because every total ends in 5. A 605 beat 69.4% of test takers on GMAC’s 2026 table and a 655 beat 89.6%.
A 700, 740 or 750 is an old-exam score, from the 200 to 800 scale used until January 2024. Old and new numbers don’t match one for one, so convert them with GMAC’s concordance table before you compare.
Minimum GMAT scores
GMAC tells schools to use cutoff scores only when they have clear evidence for them, and that a score is only one part of an application. So check whether a program states a minimum at all before you treat any number as one.
When a higher score pays
GMAC’s GMAT vs GRE article quotes Studyportals: some MBA scholarships and fellowships are based on GMAT scores. If a program ties money to a score, that number may matter more than the admissions range.
