Taking the Kansas driver's license test online

You can, if you qualify. KDOR lets Kansans complete the non-commercial knowledge exam online through its KnowToDrive portal, bring the passing result to a driver's license office, and skip the written test there. The Kansas driver's license test online is the same knowledge exam you'd take at an office, done on a laptop or desktop.

Can you take the Kansas driver's license test online at home?

Yes. KDOR's Division of Vehicles page says Kansans can take their written test from home through KnowTo Drive Online, and KDOR's FAQ says the exam can be done from a laptop or desktop computer outside the office, but not in Internet Explorer. The handbook sends you to the portal to see if you qualify, and KDOR's own pages don't spell out the conditions.

KDOR describes online testing only for the non-commercial knowledge exam. Its pages don't offer CDL knowledge tests online.

What still happens at the office

You bring your passing result to a driver's license office. The handbook says every applicant's vision is screened at the station, unless you bring KDOR's vision form completed by an eye doctor in the last 90 days. You also show your documents there, and the driving test is always in person.

Practicing online first

The handbook is a free PDF, KDOR has a voice practice test for Alexa, and there are 20 practice questions on this site. Since the online exam saves you a trip only if you pass it, practice until you're getting at least 80% before you log in.
