What do you need to take the Michigan driving test online?
The SOS lists:
- A computer or laptop with a keyboard and a mouse. Touch screens don’t work
- A webcam, which takes random photos while you test
The test has an Operator section and a Signs segment. Your result comes by email, and for technical help the test vendor’s support line is 833-939-2364.
Who shouldn’t take it online
If your license is suspended, revoked or denied, the SOS says not to take the online test, and there’s no refund if you do. The online option is for drivers 18 or older; under 18, you follow Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) instead.
After you pass online
A passed result counts for one year. Within that year, book an SOS office appointment for your temporary instruction permit (TIP), where you finish the other steps. If the year runs out first, you take the test again.
The road test isn’t online
The online option covers the knowledge test. The driving skills test is in a car, with a driver testing business the SOS approves.
