A free Michigan DMV practice test

Here are 20 free questions written from What Every Driver Must Know, the manual for the knowledge test. Michigan has no Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV): the real test comes from the Secretary of State (SOS), which doesn’t publish its length or pass mark. This Michigan DMV practice test uses our own target of 75%, which is 15 of 20. Four questions show a sign, and anything you miss comes back at the end.

Question 1 of 20

You hold a Level 1 Learner’s License. Who may supervise your driving?

20 practice questions in the style of the knowledge test.

How close is this Michigan DMV practice test to the real one?

The questions are ours, written from the manual’s chapters, not taken from the SOS. The real test has a knowledge part and a road sign part, and you pass both.

They run from licensing rules in chapter 1 to deer and bad weather in chapter 7, with the most weight on the traffic laws, signs and sharing the road in chapters 4 to 6.

Then try the manual’s own tests

The manual has a sign challenge and a short knowledge test of its own, each with answers. Work through them after these 20, and look up anything you miss.
