NAPLEX exam cost: NABP’s fees for each exam

Expect to pay $620 for one try at the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX): a $100 application fee and a $520 exam fee, the amounts in the 2026 Candidate Application Bulletin from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). In the 15 jurisdictions where NABP processes eligibility, its $85 processing fee brings that to $705. The NAPLEX exam cost doesn’t include a law exam, the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) or the Uniform MPJE (UMPJE), or anything your board of pharmacy charges for the license itself.

  • $100Application fee, for each exam
  • $520NAPLEX exam fee
  • $620Application and NAPLEX exam fees together

NABP’s fees in the 2026 Bulletin

The Bulletin lists these fees. It gives March 1, 2024 as the start date for the three exam fees:

ItemFee
Application, NAPLEX or UMPJE$100
Application, MPJE, per jurisdiction$100
NAPLEX exam$520
MPJE exam, per jurisdiction$170
UMPJE exam$350

You pay the application fee when you apply. It’s nonrefundable and doesn’t include the exam fee, and you can buy the exam only once you’ve been made eligible.

If you’ve served in the armed forces, NABP’s NAPLEX page says to apply for its armed forces discount in your e-Profile before you apply for eligibility. It doesn’t give the amount.

How much does the NAPLEX cost with a law exam?

Each law exam has its own $100 application fee on top of its exam fee:

  • MPJE, for each jurisdiction: $100 + $170 = $270
  • UMPJE: $100 + $350 = $450

So the NAPLEX and one state’s MPJE come to $890, or $1,070 with the UMPJE instead. In the 15 jurisdictions where NABP processes eligibility, add the $85 fee once.

The $85 processing fee and score transfers

Where NABP confirms eligibility for the board, you pay an extra $85 nonrefundable processing fee when you apply. It covers the NAPLEX and the MPJE for one jurisdiction, or a stand-alone MPJE, for 1 year from your first application. For the UMPJE, the exam fee covers this service. The overview lists the jurisdictions.

A score transfer sends your NAPLEX result to another state’s board, at $105 per jurisdiction.

Retakes, refunds and lost fees

A retake costs the application fee and the exam fee again. You restart the eligibility application and pay the $100 application fee, your board confirms you again, and then you pay the exam fee.

NABP’s UMPJE page gives one case for a refund: if you applied for and bought the MPJE but want the UMPJE instead, contact NABP’s Exam Services team, and NABP closes the application and refunds the full cost to apply for and buy the exam.

You can also lose your fees if your eligibility runs out before you book, and Pearson charges its own fee to reschedule. The exam dates page explains both.
