How to book a test online
For a driving test or HPT, have your driver licence number, Photo Card or customer number ready. For an in-person DKT, your name and date of birth are enough.
No suitable date? Bookings open four weeks ahead and are updated weekly. Service NSW says its contact centre can't find you other times, so try another centre, another day, or check again in a few days.
- Make sure you meet that test's requirements first. Each test has its own minimum age and rules.
- Go to the Service NSW 'Book a driver or rider licence test' page and select Book online.
- Choose how to sign in: with your existing Transport customer details, as a first-time customer, or by logging in.
- Follow the prompts to choose your test, service centre and time, and pay.
Booking the learners test (DKT)
For the online DKT, there's nothing to book. You enrol with a MyServiceNSW Account and do the course at home. After you pass, you walk into a service centre to apply for your Ls, no appointment needed.
For the in-person DKT, you book and pay online and choose your centre. You need to be 16 or over. If you fail, you can sit it again on the same day if there's a free booking, but you pay again. You must sit it in person if you've been refused, suspended or disqualified, or if you need an interpreter or a language that isn't offered online.
Booking your driving test
Under 25, you can book once you've passed the HPT, held your Ls for 12 months and logged 120 hours, including 20 at night. If you use the log book app, submit it at least 48 hours before the test. If you're 25 or over, you only need to have passed the HPT.
Your test won't go ahead in a car with an affected Takata airbag unless it has been replaced. There's more on what to bring on our driving test page.
Changing, rescheduling or cancelling
Do it in time: at least one day before a DKT or HPT, and at least 2 days before a driving test. Cancel within that notice and you may get a refund by calling 13 77 88 or visiting a service centre. Leave it later and your fee may not be moved or refunded.
- Go to the Service NSW 'View, change or cancel a driver or rider licence test' page and select Manage booking.
- Enter your booking number from your confirmation email, and your family name.
- Follow the prompts to pick a new date or cancel.
Tests you can't book online
Interpreter-assisted tests, aged and accessible driving tests, short manual driving tests and motorcycle tests in areas without rider training are booked by contacting a Service NSW centre. Rider training in serviced areas is booked with the training provider. Use Service NSW only: third-party booking websites charge extra on top of the official fee.
