Who can do it online
- You're at least 15 years and 11 months old. (You still need to be 16 to get your learner licence.)
- You live in NSW.
- You've never been disqualified, suspended or refused a licence, and have no suspension pending.
- You don't already hold a current NSW or interstate driver licence. A rider-only licence is fine.
- Overseas licence holders should check the separate rules first, because you may not need a DKT.
Enrolling
- Go to the Service NSW 'Driver Knowledge Test online' page and select Do your DKT online.
- Log in to your MyServiceNSW Account, or create one.
- Prove who you are with a NSW licence, Photo Card, NSW registered vehicle or customer number. If you have none of these, an Australian passport, birth certificate, citizenship certificate or ImmiCard will do.
- Start the course. You have 12 months to finish it and apply for your licence.
Rules for the final test
- You need to finish all three modules before the final test opens.
- Family or friends can help you with the modules. The final test you do alone, with no help or notes.
- There's no time limit, but you must finish in one session. Leave partway and your answers aren't saved.
- Fail it and you're locked out for 12 hours. Your results show the correct answer for every question, so use that time to revise.
- Use a computer or tablet with Chrome if you can, on Wi-Fi or a wired connection. The course uses about 1.5GB of data.
Languages and support
The online DKT is in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai and Farsi, and it has text-to-speech. If you need an interpreter or a different language, book the in-person test instead.
After you pass
Your pass shows on screen and arrives by email. If you're 16 or over, go to a Service NSW centre, mobile service centre or council agency to apply for your Ls. You don't need a booking. Bring your proof of identity, a completed licence application form, your glasses if you wear them, and the test and licence fees: $58 plus $32, as of October 2026.
