How to prepare for the Casper test

Start with Acuity Insights’ free practice test, which runs the real format and timing for your test type. There’s no content to memorize and no answer key, so to prepare for the Casper test you practise the format: explaining why you’d act, typing under a timer and talking to a camera.

Put in your Casper date and the planner spreads 19 short lessons, from owning a mistake to calming a team conflict, over the days you have left. Two days out it sets a practice run and a second look at anything you got wrong, and the day before is light. For that practice run, use Acuity’s free official practice test in your account, since it has the real timing and the video section.

Pick the date of your test and how long you can study each day. You’ll get a plan that takes you right up to the test.

How should you prepare for the Casper test?

  1. Learn the format: 4 video scenarios with 1 minute per spoken answer, then 7 typed scenarios with 3.5 minutes for each pair of answers.
  2. Book your test, then take the official practice test in your account. You can take it as many times as you like. Your answers aren’t saved or scored.
  3. When you practise, explain your reasons and what drives you, not just what you’d do. Acuity says your thought process matters as much as the action.
  4. If typing is slow for you, use a free online typing tool. Acuity suggests getting your key ideas down first when time is short, then adding detail.
  5. If the camera makes you nervous, record yourself with your computer’s camera app, such as Camera on a PC or Photo Booth on a Mac.
  6. Run the System Check in your account within 6 hours of your start time.

Casper test tips from Acuity

  • Read each question fully and plan for a moment before you answer. Each scenario gives you up to 30 seconds to think.
  • Use all the time for each question, because each one is scored on its own.
  • Don’t worry about spelling, grammar or jargon. Raters are trained to ignore them.
  • If time runs out mid-sentence, raters still look at your overall point.
  • If a scenario throws you, pause, refocus and move on to the next one.
  • Memorized lines won’t help, as the guide’s FAQ explains.

How long should you study for Casper?

Acuity doesn’t give a number of weeks. Plan around your dates instead: book at least 3 days ahead, keep enough time for your result to reach each program about 2-3 weeks after you test, and leave room to take the practice test more than once.
