MCCQE practice questions

Here are 20 free MCCQE practice questions we wrote from the MCC Examination Objectives, spread across the six disciplines in roughly equal shares, as the Medical Council of Canada’s (MCC’s) study guide describes the exam. Each is a short clinical case with one best answer and an explanation. The real exam has 230 questions in two sections, so treat this as a quick check of what you know, not a mock exam.

Question 1 of 20

A 62-year-old man has had crushing chest pain for 40 minutes. His ECG shows ST elevation in leads II, III and aVF. Which coronary artery is most likely occluded?

20 practice questions in the style of the exam.

How to use these 20 questions

Questions 1 to 4 are medicine, 5 to 7 surgery, 8 to 10 pediatrics, 11 to 13 obstetrics and gynecology, 14 to 16 psychiatry and 17 to 20 population health, ethical, legal and organizational aspects of medicine (PHELO). Each has four options. Real MCCQE questions have three to five.

Aim for 15 right, which is 75%. That’s our own target, not the MCC’s: your real score is a scaled score from 300 to 600, worked out from which questions you got right and how hard they were, and 439 passes. If an answer doesn’t click, ask the tutor to explain it another way.

Where can you find more MCCQE practice questions?

The MCC, which writes the real exam, has a free set of 55 practice questions with rationales, and sells preparatory exams written the same way as the MCCQE, including a full-length form for $1. Our 20 don’t come from the MCC, so treat them as practice on the content, not a preview of real items.
