Before you go

The province suggests you:

  • Check whether your service is online, so you may not need to go in
  • Book an appointment
  • Call 902-424-5200 or 1-800-670-4357 to check the location isn’t closed for a holiday or bad weather
  • Without an appointment, make sure the location offers your service, and plan for a longer wait

Booking an Access Nova Scotia appointment

You can book online for knowledge tests, licence renewals and other services, up to 45 days ahead. Each appointment covers up to 3 RMV options, and you can book 2 appointments a day. You get a confirmation email, then a reminder the day before.

If you need one, you may be able to ask for a lower counter that’s accessible by wheelchair when you book. To change the time, use the link in your confirmation email.

Do you need to go in at all?

For the learner’s test, only once. You can take the Knowledge Test online and visit afterwards for the vision test, ID, photo and licence. Road tests are booked online and taken in person, at a location that does driver testing.
