TCF results and TEF Canada results

CCI Paris Île-de-France says TEF Canada results come by email within 1 to 10 working days, though centres quote up to 6 weeks. For TCF results, centres give 2 to 6 weeks: Alliance Française de Toronto quotes about 2 weeks after a computer session and 4 weeks on paper, and Alliance Française de Calgary says within 6 weeks. Both are valid for 2 years from the date they’re issued.

When do TCF results come out?

Each centre gives its own estimate, as of October 2026:

  • Alliance Française de Toronto: about 2 weeks after computer-based sessions, 4 weeks after paper ones.
  • Alliance Française d’Ottawa: 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Alliance Française de Victoria: up to 3 weeks.
  • Alliance Française de Vancouver: up to 4 weeks.
  • Alliance Française de Calgary: within 6 weeks.
  • Centre Yves-Thériault, Montreal: results reach the centre within 20 working days, and you collect the attestation in person.

Results go into your France Éducation international account. The University of Victoria says you get a link to create it after registering, and Alliance Française de Calgary says the invitation is for a TEO+ account. The certificate itself is emailed.

When TEF Canada results arrive

CCI’s attestation page says 1 to 10 working days, by an email with a link to a digital safe where you download the attestation. There’s no paper copy, so check your spam folder. CCI’s overview page says about 2 weeks, and centres quote their own times: 1 to 2 weeks at Alliance Française d’Edmonton, 1 to 15 days at Alliance Française de Toronto, about 15 days at McGill, 2 to 4 weeks at Centre Yves-Thériault, within 4 weeks at Alliance Française du Manitoba and within 6 weeks at Alliance Française de Calgary. With a deadline, plan on your centre’s figure.

What’s on your results

TEF Canada: each test gets a score from 0 to 699, a CEFR level and an NCLC level, plus the Équivalence ancien score column that IRCC asks for. TCF Canada: listening and reading are scored from 0 to 699, and writing and speaking from 0 to 20.

Entering TEF results in your IRCC profile

  • Use the scores in the Équivalence ancien score column.
  • The certificate number IRCC asks for is the part of the number at the bottom left of your attestation before the dash.
  • The part after the dash is your NIP (personal identification number).
  • For Express Entry, results must be less than 2 years old when you create your profile and when you apply. Citizenship accepts expired results.

Disagree with your results?

For TEF Canada, CCI accepts a free appeal within 30 days of the attestation date, but only for a serious problem during the test, reported to the supervisor on the day. It’s handled in about 2 weeks. If it’s accepted, you can retake the affected tests free within 3 months, and your old scores are cancelled. You can’t see your marked work or recording.

For TCF Canada, Alliance Française d’Ottawa says only writing and speaking can be re-marked, if you ask within one month of the results being sent. It charges CAD 100 per test.

Retaking TEF or TCF Canada

You can retake either test as often as you like, but not straight away. CCI’s rule for TEF is at least 20 days between two sittings, and booking again sooner cancels the registration. Alliance Française de Toronto, de Calgary and de Victoria use the same 20 days for TCF Canada.

Some centres ask for longer: Alliance Française d’Ottawa says 30 days between TEF Canada registrations, Centre Yves-Thériault 30 days between sittings of the same test, for both TEF and TCF, and Alliance Française du Manitoba says 60 days between TEF attempts. Check your centre before you book.
