Approved courses for a class 2 licence, and what they change

It’s the other way to a full heavy vehicle licence, in place of the learner wait and the practical test. A class 2 licence course works this way, and so do the approved courses for classes 3, 4 and 5.

What does an approved class 2 licence course change?

Without a course, you hold your learner licence for at least six months and then pass a practical test. With an approved course for that class, you don’t have to hold the learner licence for a minimum period.

Getting your full licence with a course

You apply for the full licence at a driver licensing agent in the same way, and present your approved course certificate. The application fee is the same whether you show a certificate or sit the test.

Courses for drivers aged 25 or over

There are also approved over 25 courses for the class 3, 4 and 5 learner licences. If you’re 25 or over, the course for your class removes the 3-month wait on the licence before it.
