How to book a class 2 theory test

You book it in person at a driver licensing agent, as part of applying for your learner licence. Once you’ve applied and paid, you book a class 2 theory test time with the agent. It’s the same for classes 3, 4 and 5.

How do you book a class 2 theory test?

At a driver licensing agent, you:

  1. Apply for your learner licence, with the form and ID on the guide’s list
  2. Show that your eyesight meets the required standard, and have your photo and signature taken
  3. Pay the learner licence application fee
  4. Book a test time

Can you book it online?

Not the theory test. NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) says you go to a driver licensing agent to book it. The full licence practical test is different: you can book it online before you go into the agent.

Changing or rebooking

To change or cancel a theory test, go back to a driver licensing agent. If you don’t pass, you can book another one there, using form DL22.

NZTA asks you to make any change as far ahead as you can, so someone else can take the time.
