How the CeMAP exams work

There’s nothing to book. Every CeMAP exam is a multiple-choice exam you open on Brightspace, the London Institute of Banking & Finance’s (LIBF’s) learning platform, and take under remote invigilation at any time in your registration period. The Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP) has five unit exams in all, and the link to each stays open until you complete it or your registration runs out.

How do you sit a CeMAP exam online?

  1. Log in to MyLIBF and open the exam on your course site in Brightspace.
  2. Use a PC or laptop. You don’t need to install software, plug-ins or extensions.
  3. Before the exam starts, pick up your laptop or webcam and scan the whole room through 360 degrees.
  4. Answer the questions in one sitting. Toilet breaks aren’t allowed.

On a work device or a VPN, a firewall can get in the way. LIBF suggests asking your company to whitelist the exam platform’s domains first.

Booking a CeMAP exam

You don’t book a CeMAP exam or choose a test centre: every exam is on Brightspace. Pearson VUE test centres were used only for the old version of CeMAP. If you need a resit, you book it from MyLIBF or by calling LIBF on +44 (0)1227 818609.

CeMAP exam results and grades

LIBF gives same-day results for the two CeMAP 1 exams. Its CeMAP pages don’t give a timing for the other units. Each unit can be passed at pass, merit or distinction level, but CeMAP itself is graded pass or fail, and analysis sheets on MyLIBF show your strengths and the areas to work on.

If you think a mark is wrong, you can ask for a result enquiry within 10 working days of getting your results.

CeMAP resits

If you fail a unit, you can resit it within your registration period, paying a resit fee each time. For each unit you fail, LIBF’s specification sets two limits:

  • no more than three attempts in a week
  • no more than 10 attempts in any 12-month period

Reasonable adjustments and special consideration

LIBF sets these deadlines for extra support:

  • a reasonable adjustment, for a disability or learning difficulty, needs your application and evidence at least six weeks before it has to be in place
  • special consideration, for illness or something else outside your control that affected an exam, needs you to tell LIBF within five days of the exam date
