DMV business partners are private businesses that handle some DMV work for a fee they set, such as licenses, permits, ID cards and written or road tests, depending on the partner. The DMV lists them in Anchorage, Wasilla, Fairbanks, North Pole, Delta Junction, Homer, Juneau, Soldotna and Kenai. In remote communities, local knowledge test proctors can give the written test.

The Mobile DMV is staff who travel to rural communities about once a quarter for road tests, licenses, renewals and REAL ID. The community pays for travel, lodging and a work space, and asks for a visit by emailing doa.dmv.webmaster@alaska.gov. The DMV says its 2026 rural schedule is fully booked and it’s taking names for 2027.
