How to study for the HESI exam: your study plan

Enter your test date and you get a plan to study for the HESI exam in the days you have left: 31 short lessons across math, reading, vocabulary, grammar, biology, chemistry, and anatomy and physiology, then our 20 practice questions two days before. Ask your school which sections you’ll take before you start, and drop the lessons you won’t need.

Put in your HESI A2 date and the planner spreads our 31 short lessons over the days you have left, from fractions and military time to context clues, pronoun case, the nephron and pH. Two days before the exam it sets our 20 practice questions and a redo of the ones you missed. If your school skips a section, skip its lessons and give that time to your weakest subject.

Pick the date of your test and how long you can study each day. You’ll get a plan that takes you right up to the test.

How do you study for the HESI exam, step by step?

  1. Ask your school which sections it gives, how long you’ll have and the score it wants. Only study the sections on your exam.
  2. Find your weak spots first, with the 25-question pre-test in Elsevier’s review book or our 20 practice questions.
  3. Work on your weakest section first, then the rest.
  4. Practise against a timer. Ask your school how long you get, because it sets the timer.
  5. In the last week, take a full practice exam under timed conditions and go back over every question you missed.
  6. If this is a retake, open the remediation packets in your HESI course first. Elsevier fills them with study content for the topics where you scored below your school’s benchmark.
