PTCB certification verification: look up a CPhT

Search the PTCB certification verification page on ptcb.org. Choose the credential type, fill in at least one search field, and the result shows whether a person's PTCB credential is active, expired, revoked or something else. PTCB calls itself a primary source verifier. An ExCPT credential is checked on NHA's site instead.

How does PTCB certification verification work?

  1. Open PTCB's Verify Certification page.
  2. Pick the credential type, such as CPhT.
  3. Enter as many details as you have in the search fields. More details narrow the results.
  4. Click a technician's name to see their current and past PTCB credentials.

What each status means

StatusWhat PTCB says it means
ActiveCurrently certified
AdvancedAn active CPhT who has also earned the CPhT-Adv
EmeritusInactive, retired or no longer practicing
ExpiredNot active, but can still reinstate
Revoked, Surrendered, SuspendedNot active because of revocation, voluntary surrender or suspension
UncertifiedNot active, and must apply again

New CPhTs who don't show up yet

You appear once your official result is posted; timing is on the results page. Your certificate and wallet card are in your PTCB account once you're certified, if someone needs a copy.

Looking up an NHA CPhT

NHA's certification verification portal searches by last name, first name, country, state, credential type and credential number. The results table shows each person's credential, status, effective date and expiration date.

Employers checking several technicians

PTCB handles bulk checks separately: employers can send a request through PTCB's Help Center, and those with an employer account have their own bulk process. Your state's technician registration, where there is one, is checked with the state board, not PTCB.
