How to prepare for PTE Academic: your study planner

Tell the planner your test date and it turns your study into one short lesson a day, so you’re not cramming in the last week. It’s a simple way to prepare for PTE Academic reading and grammar, and it ends with a practice test two days before the real one.

How should you prepare for PTE Academic with the time you have?

Work back from your deadline, not just your test date. Pearson’s results typically take two days and can take five business days, so leave room for that.

Pearson’s own free Study Plan, in Smart Prep, goes in four stages: check your level, get to know the test, practise, then work on tips to improve. Use its Guided Practice Tests for speaking and listening, which these lessons don’t cover, and give your remaining days to the tasks that cost you most.

PTE self study for speaking

Speaking can’t be practised from a page. Record yourself on the tasks with a timer, at a normal speaking volume, and listen back for long pauses: Pearson’s handbook says unnatural pausing and hesitation can show in your score. The speaking page has the timing for every task.
