Life in the UK Test centres

There are over 30 test centres in the UK, GOV.UK says, and you choose one when you book. We couldn’t find a published list of Life in the UK Test centres on GOV.UK or on the booking service’s public pages in October 2026, so you see the centres, dates and times once you start a booking.

How do you find Life in the UK Test centres near you?

Start a booking on the official service and pick from the centres it offers. Because neither GOV.UK nor the booking service publishes the list outside the booking itself, we can’t say whether there’s a centre in a particular town or part of London.

The booking service’s terms say it aims to have appointments at each of its centres within three months of booking.

Taking the test in Welsh or Scottish Gaelic

The caseworker guidance says you can take the test in English, in Welsh at a centre in Wales, or in Scottish Gaelic in Scotland. It lists no other languages, such as Urdu. To book in Welsh or Gaelic, the booking service’s home page says to choose Make a booking in your account and follow its special arrangements process, and that this is only available at centres in Wales or Scotland. If you can’t find the option, ask the helpline before you book.

At the test centre

  • Arrive at the time in your confirmation email. The booking service’s terms set a minimum arrival time of 30 minutes before your appointment, and if you’re late your test may be cancelled without a refund.
  • Expect to be there for up to 2 hours in total, for a 45-minute test.
  • Bring the same original ID you booked with. You can’t take the test without it.
  • You’ll be asked to agree to a passport-style photo.
  • Phones, smart devices, watches, handbooks and other written material go in a locker, and you’re searched before you go into the test room.
  • From 1 October 2026, headphones aren’t a standard test aid. You can ask for them only through special arrangements, for a qualifying condition, and you can’t bring your own.
  • You can’t bring children or other family members to the centre.

Help with access, and extra privacy

GOV.UK says you can make special requests when you book, such as extra equipment or help getting into the centre. If you asked for special arrangements, bring your evidence, such as a letter from your doctor: the booking service says the supervisor checks it, and without it you can’t take the test. On the test computer, the booking service’s FAQ says, you can change the font size and the screen background colour. A test session with extra privacy is an optional extra, priced on application.
