ACCUPLACER Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS)

Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS) is the ACCUPLACER math test College Board describes as best suited to students heading into non-STEM fields, or who haven’t picked a major yet. It has 20 multiple-choice questions across ten skill areas, from ratios and linear equations to probability, statistics and geometry. It’s scored 200 to 300.

What does ACCUPLACER Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics cover?

AreaWhat it covers
Rational numbersCalculating with rational numbers, absolute value
Ratio and proportional relationshipsRates, ratios, proportions, unit conversions
ExponentsExponents, radicals, fractional exponents, scientific notation
Algebraic expressionsWriting and evaluating expressions, combining like terms
Linear equationsSolving linear equations and inequalities, systems of two equations
Linear applications and graphsReal-life linear problems, graphing lines, parallel and perpendicular lines
Probability and setsSimple, compound and conditional probability, set notation
Descriptive statisticsHistograms, box plots, scatterplots, mean and median
Geometry for prealgebraArea, perimeter, circles, volume of prisms
Geometry for Algebra 1Distance formula, Pythagorean theorem, basic transformations

What QAS score bands show

ScoreTypical skills
200 to 220Work with integers, find mean and median, solve one-step equations
221 to 230Plot points, use a linear equation, find probability in context
231 to 240Unit rates and proportions, turn words into an equation
241 to 250Simplify exponents, multistep rate problems, powers of 10
251 to 260Solve a system of two equations, find slope and y-intercept
261 to 270Parallel and perpendicular lines, link tables, graphs and equations
271 to 300Complex area and perimeter expressions, absolute value, nonlinear graphs

College Board lists each band’s skills as additions to the bands under it. Your college decides which score you need.

QAS, Arithmetic or AAF?

Your college picks your math test. QAS used to be compared with the Classic Elementary Algebra test, so older study materials may still use that name.
