The Arkansas driver's license study guide

It's a free PDF from the Arkansas State Police, and the current edition, Volume 1, Edition 10, is dated October 15, 2026. The Arkansas driver's license study guide is the book ASP points you to for the knowledge exam, and it covers the driving test too. You don't need to buy a printed copy: ASP posts the whole thing on its driver examination page, with Spanish and Vietnamese editions beside it.

Where can you get the Arkansas driver's license study guide?

ASP's driver examination page links to three editions. Check the date on the cover before you start, since the English edition was updated in October 2026 and the others are older.

What each chapter covers

Before Chapter 1 there's a section on the license itself: the types of graduated licenses, vision rules, the countries exempt from testing, and the ID documents ASP accepts.

The distracted driving section in Chapter 4 and the tractor-trailer chapter are both labeled "(REQUIRED)" in the study guide. It doesn't explain the label, but they're worth reading closely.

Is there an Arkansas permit book in print or audio?

ASP's driver examination page lists the Arkansas permit book only as PDF files, and it doesn't list an audio edition. What ASP does offer is an oral version of the test for people with a learning difference, where the kiosk reads questions and answers through headphones.

If you want it on paper, print the PDF.

Study guides for motorcycle and CDL tests

ASP links to two more books on the same page. For a motorcycle license it uses the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Motorcycle Operator Manual, 18th edition. For a commercial license there's the Commercial Driver License Manual, version March 2025, which covers the CDL knowledge tests and skills test.
