Getting your Kentucky driving record

Kentucky calls your driving record a Driver History Record (DHR). A 3-year record is $6 online and comes within minutes. A full record or a certified clearance letter costs $3, at a Regional Office or by mail. That's as of October 2026.

Which record you need

  • 3-year DHR: anyone can order it. It leaves out personal details like your address and Social Security number. It's the only one you can buy online.
  • Full DHR: your identifying details, licenses, convictions and actions on your driving privilege. To get someone else's, you need their notarized release or a subpoena.
  • Clearance letter: a certified copy of the full record. Another state may ask for one if you move there.

In person, you can pay by card (with a processing fee), money order or cashier's check, but not cash or a personal check. By mail, send a cashier's check or money order made out to the Kentucky State Treasurer.

What stays on it

Points from a conviction expire two years after the conviction date, but the conviction stays on your record for five years. At 12 points in two years, or 7 if you're under 18, the Transportation Cabinet holds a hearing on your license.
