Languages for the written test
The manual lists Albanian, Arabic, Bosnian, Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese, Croatian, Dari, Farsi, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Kinyarwanda, Korean, Laotian, Pashto, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese, as well as English.
Seven of them, Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, French, Japanese, Somali and Spanish, are on the testing software, so you can ask to take the test in one of them on screen and hear it as audio. Tablets at every testing office can also read the test aloud in English and several other languages, with no special appointment.
Oral tests and interpreters
- If you can't read English, the test can be given orally. You need a special appointment for that or for an interpreter, so contact the testing site before you book.
- Even in an oral test, you must answer the road signs part from your own knowledge.
- Interpreters aren't allowed in the car during the road test, but can help before and after.
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing applicants can ask for a sign language interpreter when they book.
Studying in Spanish
KSP has a Spanish edition of the Kentucky Driver Manual (Manual del conductor de Kentucky). It's from 2023, so check the current English edition from July 2026 for any changes. RightLane's graduated licensing course is also offered in Spanish for $12.50.
