The Kentucky practice driving log

Every Kentucky driver under 18 must show a practice driving log to the KSP examiner before the road test. It records 60 hours of practice: 50 in daylight and 10 at night. You and the parent or guardian who supervised you both sign it. The official form is a free fillable PDF from the Transportation Cabinet.

What goes on the log

  • A day driving record with the date, how long you drove and the parent or guardian's initials. 50 hours are required.
  • A night driving record set out the same way. 10 hours are required.
  • Your signature and your parent or guardian's, certifying the log is correct.
  • A space for the KSP examiner to confirm the 60 hours at your road test.

Rules for the practice hours

The person beside you must be a licensed driver 21 or older, in the front passenger seat. The log covers your 180-day permit period, and between midnight and 6 a.m. you can only drive with good cause. Bring the signed log, with your skills test eligibility letter, to the road test.
