MO driving test locations: Highway Patrol exam stations

The Missouri State Highway Patrol runs 135 driver testing sites, 16 full-time and 119 part-time, plus separate sites for CDL skills tests. Every written, road sign and driving test for a car license happens at one of these MO driving test locations, not at a license office. The full-time sites are open weekdays from 8 to 5, but many part-time ones open only a day or two a week, so check before you go.

Where to take the permit test in Missouri

Use the Highway Patrol's station list or map. Each entry shows the address, the days it's open and its hours, and notes like the time of the last driving test or when motorcycle tests run. The Patrol warns that arriving before closing doesn't guarantee you'll be tested, because it depends on staff and how busy the station is. For questions, call Driver Examination at (573) 751-2341 or (573) 526-6221.

Where are the main MO driving test locations?

As listed on the Patrol's station list in October 2026. Hours change and stations close for holidays and training, so check the live list on the day.

Exam station or license office?

They're different places. Searches like "Macon MO DMV" or "St. Robert MO DMV" usually mean the Department of Revenue license office, where you buy your permit or license and renew it. The tests themselves are at the Highway Patrol station, which may be in another building with different days.

In Macon, the license office is at 210 N Rubey St, open Monday to Friday 9:00 to 5:00, phone (660) 385-3416. The Patrol's Macon station is a separate site on Prospect Drive.

St. Robert has no license office. The nearest is in Waynesville, at 218 Historic 66 E, open Monday to Friday 8:00 to 4:00, phone (573) 774-8400. The St. Robert testing station gives tests only on Tuesdays.

These details are from the Department of Revenue's office data as of October 2026. Find any other license office with the department's locator.

Do you need an appointment?

Not for a car license. Written tests and non-CDL driving tests are walk-in. Some stations also offer driving test appointments through MyDMV, and the Patrol recommends using them where they exist. CDL skills tests are the exception: they're by appointment only, at CDL sites.
