How to make a Nevada DMV appointment

Nevada DMV services are by appointment only, and you book free on the DMV's appointments page by picking an office. Each office has a general appointment link, and metro offices and some rural ones also have a drive test link. You can skip the appointment for the written test by taking it online.

Booking step by step

  1. Go to the DMV's appointments page and choose your office, for example Las Vegas-West Flamingo, East Sahara, North Decatur or Silverado, Reno, or Carson City.
  2. Pick 'General Appointment' for things like an instruction permit or REAL ID, or 'Drive Test' for a road test.
  3. Use 'Find Appointment' on the same platform to view or change a booking you already have.
  4. Under 18? You need an instruction permit before you can book a drive test. If you have one, you can book online.

When new slots open

  • Metro offices except Carson City: last-minute Wednesday appointments open the night before, from 8 p.m.
  • Rural offices: appointments open one day ahead only. To visit on a Friday, look on Thursday.
  • To cancel a road test, call (775) 684-4368 for Reno, Sparks and Carson City, or (702) 486-4368 for the Las Vegas area.

Can you walk in to the Nevada DMV?

For most services, no. The DMV lists only a few things you can do without an appointment: drop off license plates, pay past-due debt, get a VIN inspection at Pahrump, Elko and metro offices, and drop off title documents after a Turbo Titles payment.

The Reno commercial (CDL) office on Trademark Drive is walk-in only. If you need help, the information desk at any DMV office can point you in the right direction.

Watch out for paid booking sites

The DMV doesn't charge for appointments. Under Nevada's SB169, third-party services can't sell or reserve DMV appointments without written consent. You can report deceptive services to the Nevada Consumer Affairs Division.
