A free TN drivers practice test from the manual

You get 20 free questions here, written from the Comprehensive Driver License Manual of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. The online version of the real knowledge test needs 80% to pass, so on this TN drivers practice test, aim for 16 of 20. Pick an answer to see why it’s right, and the ones you miss come back at the end.

Question 1 of 20
Round yellow sign with a black X and two letters R

You see this sign ahead on a country road. What does it tell you to do?

20 practice questions in the style of the permit test.

How close is this TN drivers practice test to the real one?

Both are multiple choice with three choices per question, and both draw on sections B and C of the manual. These questions are ours, not the Department’s, and the online version of the real test has 30, so treat a good score here as a sign you’re on track rather than a promise.

They cover the four areas the manual lists for the test: signs and signals, rules of the road, safe driving, and alcohol and other drugs. Alcohol gets five, because the law gives it at least a quarter of the real test.

What to do with the questions you miss

Look each one up in the manual and read the whole section around it. The where-to-learn page has the manual’s own sample questions, the Department’s practice tests in e-Services and a study plan.
