Where to find a Wyoming driver’s license practice test

Start with the practice tests the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) points you to. WYDOT and the Wyoming State Library have partnered with Driving-Tests.org, and WYDOT says the service is free to all Wyoming residents. It covers the car, motorcycle and commercial driver’s license (CDL) written tests. WYDOT doesn’t post a sample test of its own, so any other Wyoming driver’s license practice test comes from an app or website that writes its own questions.

Is there an official Wyoming driver’s license practice test?

Not one WYDOT writes itself. WYDOT’s Driver License page and its CDL Testing page link to the Driving-Tests.org tests, and WYDOT says the partnership lets you prepare for its written tests anywhere, anytime.

When a practice question and Rules of the Road disagree, go with the manual.

A study plan for the written test

  1. Read Rules of the Road. The test’s questions are taken from it.
  2. Learn each sign by its shape and color as well as its words, using the sign pages at the back of the manual.
  3. Write down the numbers: the 20 mph school zone limit, signaling 100 feet before you turn, parking 15 feet from a hydrant, the two-second following gap and the 0.08 and 0.02 alcohol limits.
  4. Read the seat belt law. WYDOT says the test asks about seat belt use.
  5. Take the practice tests, then look up every question you miss in the manual.

Choosing an app or website

Pick one built for Wyoming, so the questions follow Rules of the Road and not another state’s laws. Wyoming has its own rules worth checking for, such as the intermediate permit’s 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. hours.

Zutobi and DMV Genie are free to download and sell upgrades in the App Store, so check what the free part covers before you pay.

Practice behind the wheel with a parent

WYDOT hands out The Parent’s Supervised Driving Program at its exam stations when teens apply for their first learner’s permit. Made with Safe Roads Alliance and State Farm, it splits driving into lessons a parent can teach, from moving and stopping to interstate driving, and it has a supervised driving log. That helps with the 50 hours you need for an intermediate permit.

Motorcycle and CDL practice

The same Driving-Tests.org service has motorcycle and CDL practice tests. Riders study WYDOT’s Motorcycle License Manual, and commercial drivers study its Commercial Driver License Manual.
