AMC portfolio: how to apply to the AMC

An Australian Medical Council (AMC) portfolio is the online application that opens your AMC file. It lists your medical qualifications for verification and gives you an AMC number. Every first-time international medical graduate (IMG) applicant without an AMC number needs an AMC portfolio, on any pathway, and the AMC reviews it within 5 business days. You set it up in your AMC account once your MyIntealth account with the ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) is active.

  • 6Steps, done in order
  • 3 business daysFor ECFMG to send your MyIntealth ID
  • 5 business daysFor the AMC to review your portfolio

How do you set up an AMC portfolio?

  1. Check that your medical school, degree title and graduation year are eligible, using the AMC’s school search, which leads to the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDoMS) and its ECFMG sponsor notes.
  2. Create a MyIntealth account with the ECFMG and set up an EPIC (Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials) portfolio. The AMC says ECFMG usually sends your MyIntealth ID within 3 business days.
  3. Create an AMC account. If yours was made before 1 October 2015, create another one.
  4. Set up your AMC initial portfolio in your AMC account and pay the fee.
  5. Go ahead with your eligible pathway once your degree has a verification status.
  6. Add every qualification ECFMG verifies to your AMC account, so the AMC can record the status when the report arrives.

Information moves from ECFMG to the AMC only once your MyIntealth account and EPIC portfolio are active. Step 6 can happen before, during or after the others.

Primary source verification

Primary source verification (PSV) means checking your qualifications with the school that awarded them. It’s required for every IMG seeking registration in Australia, and the AMC uses the ECFMG to do it. When you upload each document to MyIntealth, nominate the AMC so it receives the status automatically.

For your medical degree the AMC accepts three ECFMG credential types: the final medical diploma, the final medical transcript or an alternate graduation document. If you use a transcript or graduation letter, the Board may ask for the diploma as well at registration. A New Zealand medical degree from an eligible school doesn’t need ECFMG verification.

Qualifications the AMC or EPIC verified in the past remain valid. The AMC switched from EPIC’s platform to MyIntealth on 20 August 2025, without changing the verification process.

What not to add, and what it costs

Leave out registrations or licences to practise, PhDs and research degrees, internship or housemanship papers, unfinished training, science degrees, short courses and Australian or Australasian qualifications. The AMC won’t show them, and it charges a processing fee if you add them.

You pay one fee for the initial portfolio and another for each qualification added later; the fees page has the amounts and refunds. Once the portfolio is processed, your AMC number appears in your account, with your receipt and a PDF of the application.

Photos and ID for your AMC account

Your account needs a colour passport-style photo, 35 to 40 mm wide and 45 to 50 mm long, no more than 6 months old, on a plain light background, as a JPEG or PNG under 5 megabytes. Selfies and holiday photos are rejected, and you update the photo every two years.

You also upload your passport’s identity and signature pages. The AMC matches the names in your account to your passport, and those names appear on your AMC certificate.
