AMC results: release times and the MCQ score

Australian Medical Council (AMC) results for the Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) exam come out at 4.00pm on the Friday three weeks after your exam event. You read them in your AMC account, not through Pearson VUE, and never by phone. AMC results are given on a scale of 0 to 500, and 250 is the pass mark.

How do you find your AMC results?

  1. Sign in to your AMC account.
  2. Choose AMC assessments on your landing page.
  3. Select MCQ Results, at the top of the menu on your dashboard.
  4. Select your exam in the Details column.

The AMC, not Pearson VUE, processes and issues MCQ results. Each release date is in the AMC’s dates table, which the exam dates page copies for 2027.

What does your AMC MCQ score mean?

Your score is an estimate of your ability, not a count of right answers. Because the exam is adaptive, one candidate may get harder questions than another. If two people get the same number right, the one who answered harder questions ends up with the higher score.

The AMC shows that ability on a 0 to 500 scale, with a pass at 250, and measures everyone against the same cut score, whoever they sit with and whichever questions they get. From 2026 the cut score is slightly higher inside the same scale. The AMC says that doesn’t mean you need a higher percentage right, and results from 2025 and before are judged against the standard of their year.

With your result you get a computer-generated transcript and feedback on your performance. If you don’t finish all 150 questions, the AMC may not have enough information for a score, and the result can read Fail, insufficient data to obtain result.

Checking, reissuing and keeping your result

The AMC no longer offers verification of MCQ results. It says the exam is marked by computer and every result goes through statistical checks, psychometric review and sign-off by its MCQ Results Panel before release. Concerns about your exam go through the Pearson VUE test centre, which passes them to the AMC.

Your MCQ result doesn’t expire. You can print it from your AMC account, and if it isn’t there, ask for a duplicate with the AMC’s form; a reissue has a fee.

If you didn’t pass

Apply for another authorisation in your AMC account and pay the fee again. The AMC’s MCQ pages don’t set a limit on attempts. The clinical exam specifications suggest using your MCQ feedback as a guide to strengths and weaknesses.

If the AMC thinks a result may not reflect your real ability, for example because of prior knowledge of questions, it can withhold the result and invite you to sit again. If a technical fault stops your exam, its MCQ Results Panel may order another sitting at no extra fee.

Clinical exam results and pass rates

Clinical exam results have their own release rules, and the clinical exam page sets them out with the pass rule and how stations are marked.

The AMC’s exam pages don’t publish pass rates for either exam.
