The Service New Brunswick road test

Service New Brunswick (SNB) gives every road test in person at its offices, in English or French, as you choose. It moves you from Class 7 Level 1 to Level 2, and you bring the vehicle and an experienced driver yourself.

  • 12Months at Level 1 first, or 8 with a course
  • 45Minutes early to exchange a foreign licence
  • $25Fee for each Class 7 road test attempt

When can you take the Service New Brunswick road test?

After you’ve passed the written exams and the vision test, met the other requirements and finished the Level 1 wait. The 8-month wait needs the green certificate from a recognized driver education course. The Motor Vehicle Branch’s testing requirements add these for a passenger vehicle road test:

  • You hold a valid Class 7 Level 1 licence and are at least 16
  • The Level 1 wait is waived if you can prove you’ve held a full licence anywhere before
  • You bring a road-worthy vehicle, with proof of its valid registration and insurance

What to bring on the day

Bring physical copies of these. Only the proof of insurance can be digital, and if anything is missing you’ll be turned away:

  • A licensed driver with at least three years of experience and a valid Class 5 or equivalent licence, to come with you
  • Your valid learner’s permit
  • A signed, valid vehicle registration
  • Proof of valid insurance for the vehicle
  • Your driving school certificate, if you have one
  • Proof that you’ve paid for the road test

What the driver examiner does

At the start, the examiner walks you through the road test, gives you directions in advance and gives you time to ask questions. At the end, you get a summary of how you did, a review of any errors, answers to your questions and the result: a pass, or a retake.

Booking and fees

Book online through the driver examination booking service, or call SNB TeleServices at 1-888-762-8600. The fee table lists $25 for each attempt at a Class 9, 7, 6 or 5 road test, and $50 for Classes 1 to 4.

Holding a licence from another country that you haven’t exchanged yet? Arrive at least 45 minutes before your road test to exchange it. You pay up to $100 for the New Brunswick licence, and the $25 road test fee plus Harmonized Sales Tax.
