How much does the LNAT cost?

£75 if you sit it at a test centre in the UK or the European Union (EU), and £120 at a centre anywhere else. The fee for the National Admissions Test for Law (LNAT) depends on where you take it, not where you live or your nationality, and it’s always charged in pounds sterling. You pay the full LNAT cost when you book. UK and EU applicants on certain benefits can have it paid by a bursary.

How to pay for the LNAT

You pay online when you book, with one of these:

  • A major credit card: Visa, Mastercard, American Express or JCB
  • A Visa or Mastercard debit card that doesn’t ask for a PIN
  • An LNAT e-voucher, including a bursary voucher

Switch and Maestro cards aren’t accepted. If your card is from outside the UK, your card company bills you under its own rules for foreign payments.

Paying with an LNAT voucher

A voucher is for anyone without a card the system accepts. If you’re paying from one of these countries, you must use a voucher, wherever you sit the test and wherever your card was issued:

  • Afghanistan
  • Bangladesh
  • Benin
  • Cameroon
  • Gambia
  • Ghana
  • Iran
  • Kenya
  • Lebanon
  • Myanmar
  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Senegal
  • Tanzania
  • Uganda

How to get an LNAT voucher

  1. Send LNAT’s voucher application form.
  2. Pay by bank transfer. LNAT’s payment page also mentions cheque or cash.
  3. Wait for the voucher by email. It comes once the money clears, which can take up to ten working days, and any bank charges LNAT pays are taken off.

A voucher costs the same as the fee, £75 or £120, and works once. LNAT says to book two weeks further ahead than usual if you pay this way.

When you have to pay for the LNAT again

  • You miss your test, or reschedule after the deadline.
  • You arrive more than 15 minutes late and are marked as a no-show.
  • You don’t bring an accepted photo ID, or the name on it doesn’t match your booking.
  • You need a new voucher because you lost or used the old one.

Fees aren’t refunded if you decide not to sit the LNAT, and you can only have one bursary per cycle, so a second booking after a bursary is at your own cost.

Can the LNAT cost be waived?

Yes, for some UK and EU applicants. The LNAT bursary pays the whole £75 fee at UK and EU test centres for applicants who get certain benefits or whose families do. It can’t be used at centres outside the EU.
