LNAT practice tests and sample papers from the LNAT Consortium

The LNAT Consortium publishes an on-screen sample test that looks exactly like the real National Admissions Test for Law (LNAT) at the test centre, and you can take it as many times as you like. It also has two practice papers to download, with a commentary and a mark scheme. Its online LNAT practice test, the papers and its tutorial are all on lnat.ac.uk at no charge. Start with the tutorial, which shows the controls, including new functionality introduced from 2026.

  • 2Practice papers to download
  • 42Multiple-choice questions on each paper
  • No limitAttempts at the online sample test

Is there an LNAT sample test with answers?

Yes. The mark scheme gives the correct option for every multiple-choice question on both practice papers. Because the questions appear in random order on screen, it lists the answers by passage title, so note each title as you go. The commentary explains how to read the passages and weigh the options, which run from a) to e).

LNAT’s preparation guide also has sample questions with answers and the reasons behind them from its examiners.

Each paper is printed as a 2010 sample test. Its Section A matches today’s test: 12 passages, 42 questions, 95 minutes. Its Section B lists five essay questions, while the real test now gives you three to choose from, so use the online sample test to see the current layout.

The RTF versions are in Rich Text Format, for word processors.

Using the papers as an LNAT mock

  1. Give yourself 95 minutes for the 42 multiple-choice questions, with no break.
  2. Then give yourself 40 minutes for one essay question.
  3. Mark the multiple choice with the mark scheme, one point per right answer, and read the commentary on any passage where you went wrong.

LNAT’s wider advice on preparing, including what to read, is on the preparation page.

LNAT past papers

The LNAT Consortium doesn’t publish real past papers. It says people who sit the test on different days get different papers, built from large banks of questions and essay topics and calibrated so scores can be compared. The two practice papers are the closest thing it offers.

Its terms let you download and copy material from lnat.ac.uk for non-commercial use only, with its copyright notices kept on.
