LNAT tutoring, courses and other ways to prepare

You don’t need a tutor for the National Admissions Test for Law (LNAT). The LNAT Consortium, which runs it, doesn’t recommend paying for coaching and says everything you need to prepare is on its own website at no charge. The consortium’s own materials come first in the comparison, then LNAT tutoring and courses with the prices on the providers’ sites in October 2026.

Do you need LNAT tutoring?

The LNAT Consortium doesn’t recommend paying anyone who claims they can coach you for the test, it advises you to be sceptical about those claims, and it has no connection with any outside course, book or tutor. It also warns that a coaching company’s practice screens may not look like the real test.

The tutoring compared here centres on marked practice. Oxbridge Applications’ packages include test papers marked by its tutors, and UniAdmissions offers unlimited essay marking inside its law programme.

Preparing with LNAT’s own materials

Everything LNAT itself offers costs nothing: an online tutorial, an on-screen sample test, two practice papers with a mark scheme and commentary, sample essays and a preparation guide. They’re compared with the paid options in the table on this page. How to use them, and LNAT’s reading advice, are on the preparation page.

What to check before you pay for an LNAT tutor or course

  • Whether LNAT tutoring is sold on its own. UniAdmissions, for example, only offers it inside its Oxford and Cambridge law programme.
  • How many hours you get, and how many practice papers or essays a tutor marks.
  • Whether the course’s practice tests look like the real screens, which the LNAT Consortium warns they may not.
  • Whether the price includes the LNAT fee, which you pay yourself when you book the test.

The LNAT Consortium asks people to report anyone who suggests it endorses their materials, so treat any claim of official backing with care.

LNAT books

The LNAT Consortium doesn’t publish a revision book. Its own reading suggestions are a daily quality newspaper and four books on critical thinking, listed on the preparation page. Prep companies sell LNAT books and mock papers too: UniAdmissions lists its Ultimate LNAT Collection among the resources of its LNAT intensive course, which is open only to its Law Programme students.
