How to pay
Driver License Centers don't take cash. PennDOT's pages say you can pay by check or money order made out to PennDOT, and that centers take debit and credit cards, though one page notes that some centers still take only checks and money orders. A check or money order is the safe choice. The only PennDOT counter that takes cash is the Riverfront Office Center in Harrisburg.
Other fees you might pay later
- Extending or replacing a learner's permit: $6.00 with the DL-31.
- A duplicate driver's license: $42.50.
- Third-party road tests: PennDOT-certified businesses can give the road test for their own fee. A road test at a PennDOT center has no separate fee listed.
How much is the PA permit test if you fail and take it again?
PennDOT doesn't list a fee for retaking the knowledge test. If you fail, you get your forms back and can try again the next business day.
