Insurance adjuster continuing education and renewal

Plan on 24 hours every two years. That's the insurance adjuster continuing education rule in Texas, Florida, California and Alabama, and three of those states also require ethics hours. In Texas, most nonresidents follow their home state's CE rules instead of taking Texas courses.

How much insurance adjuster continuing education do you need?

StateHoursDetails
Texas24 every 2 years3 in ethics; at least 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent; finish 30 days before expiry so providers can report it
Florida24 every 2 yearsDue by the end of your birth month; shown in your MyProfile account. Public adjuster courses are coded CE3-20 and CE5-320
California24 per two-year license term3 in ethics, for adjusters and public adjusters. Claims adjusters also complete Fair Claims Settlement Practices training each year by September 1
Alabama24 per renewal period3 in ethics; extra hours don't carry over; nonresidents who meet their home state's CE are exempt
North CarolinaEvery 2 yearsIncludes mandatory ethics and flood hours. Nonresidents using NC as their home state need 24 hours
Georgia24 for resident licensees with under 20 years of service3 in ethics. OCI's CE page doesn't say whether this covers adjusters; workers' compensation adjusters take 20 hours through the State Board of Workers' Compensation

If you fall behind

  • Texas fines $50 for each hour not done by midnight Central Time on your expiration date, up to $500 per license. Paying the fine doesn't replace the hours.
  • North Carolina gives you 4 months after your compliance date to finish, with a $75 reinstatement through Prometric. After that the license goes inactive.
  • Texas licensees continuously licensed there for 20 years may be exempt; apply at least two weeks before expiry.
