State of Wisconsin DMV locations and service centers

DMV’s office finder searches State of Wisconsin DMV locations by ZIP code, city or your current location, and can filter by the service you need. Not every office offers every service, and express offices don’t issue permits.

How do you find State of Wisconsin DMV locations near you?

Search the finder for the service you need, such as driver’s licenses, ID cards, plates, titles or heavy vehicles, as well as by place. Permits are issued at service centers but not at express offices. Every service center gives knowledge tests except Milwaukee Downtown and Sauk City. The car and motorcycle tests take about 45 minutes, so get there with time to finish before closing.

Wisconsin DMV centers open on Saturday

These seven are open 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays:

  • Appleton
  • Eau Claire
  • La Crosse
  • Madison East (Bartillon Dr.)
  • Milwaukee Northwest (Mill Rd.)
  • Milwaukee Southwest (Grange Ave.)
  • Wausau

They close on legal holidays, the Saturday before Memorial Day and the Saturday after Thanksgiving. DMV’s locations page doesn’t list weekday hours, so look up the office you want in the finder.

Before you go

  • Book an office appointment for a license or ID card if you’d rather not wait, and pre-fill your application online. Knowledge tests stay walk-in only.
  • Service centers take cash, checks, money orders, debit cards and Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, and you can split a payment.
  • Pets aren’t allowed, apart from trained service animals.
  • Service centers don’t accept applications by mail.
