When is the Buckinghamshire 11 plus?

The two papers
One paper covers verbal skills: comprehension, technical English and verbal reasoning. The other covers maths and non-verbal skills, including spatial reasoning. Each takes about 45 minutes, or 60 with the introduction and examples, with a short break between them.
Every question is multiple choice, answered on a separate answer sheet, and an audio soundtrack gives the instructions. The practice test two days before has two timed papers of about 40 minutes, but isn't marked.
Scores: 121 qualifies
Verbal counts for 50% of the final score, and maths and non-verbal for 25% each. A total of 121 or more qualifies, and about 37% of children are expected to reach it. A higher score gives no extra priority: places go by each school's admission rules, such as catchment and siblings.
Below 121: Selection Review
If your child scored under 121, you can ask for a Selection Review by 30 October. A panel of two grammar school heads and one primary head looks at the written case and school evidence. The council says most successful reviews have been for scores from 110 to 120. You can also appeal for a place after offers on 1 March, with hearings from May 2027. All Buckinghamshire grammar schools give some priority to children entitled to Pupil Premium; each school's admissions policy has the details.
Living outside Buckinghamshire
Children from outside the county can sit the test, but there are more qualified children than places, and moving in doesn't guarantee one. Most grammar schools need a move to be complete by 1 September 2026 for the address to count for 2027 entry. Qualifying in Buckinghamshire only counts for Buckinghamshire grammar schools.
