The Warwickshire 11 plus

Warwickshire County Council runs the 11+ for the county's six grammar schools, using the same West Midlands papers as Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Shropshire. For 2027 entry, children sat it on 12 and 13 September 2026, and results went on the Parent Portal on 16 October. The council doesn't publish a pass mark for the Warwickshire 11 plus; each school offers places by total score, usually with priority areas.

The six grammar schools

  • King Edward VI School, Stratford-upon-Avon (boys)
  • Stratford Girls' Grammar School (girls)
  • Alcester Grammar School (mixed)
  • Lawrence Sheriff School, Rugby (boys)
  • Rugby High School (girls)
  • Ashlawn School, Rugby (mixed, with one selective class)

The schools are free to attend and there's no charge for the test. Higher priority usually goes to the highest scorers living in a school's priority area.

The test

Two multiple-choice tests of around 60 minutes each, including spoken instructions and practice items, covering English, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and maths. The council says it closely relates to the curriculum but may go beyond what children are expected to reach by the end of Key Stage 2. Scores are standardised and weighted into a total.

Anyone with the right date of birth can sit it: you don't have to live in Warwickshire. Scores from other areas don't transfer, except from Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton or Shropshire.

Proof of address and free practice

If you apply for at least one Warwickshire grammar school, the council asks for proof of address in early December, one for you and one for your child, by 31 December. Miss it and all your Warwickshire grammar school applications count as late.

Children in Years 3 to 6 eligible for Pupil Premium can get free online 11+ practice from Atom Learning through the council.
