11 plus results: dates and next steps

In the seven English areas covered here, 11 plus results from the September 2026 tests arrived in October, from 9 October in Buckinghamshire to mid October in Redbridge, in time for the 31 October deadline to apply for secondary school. Northern Ireland is later: SEAG results come out on 23 January 2027. A good result makes your child eligible, but the place itself is offered by your council on 1 March.

When do 11 plus results come out?

Wirral Council's grammar assessment page doesn't give a results date. The other areas' full timelines are on their own pages.

What 11 plus results show

Usually a standardised score for each part of the test, a total, and whether that total meets the area's standard. Buckinghamshire shows verbal, maths and non-verbal scores and whether the total qualifies. Medway shows the total, each paper's score and whether your child is assessed as suitable for grammar school. The CSSE adds the raw score for each subject.

After the results: apply by 31 October

Results aren't an application. You still name the grammar schools you want on your council's secondary school application, and GOV.UK says you must apply by 31 October. Councils send offers on 1 March, or the next working day if that's a weekend.

Medway and Buckinghamshire both say that meeting the standard doesn't guarantee a place, because oversubscribed schools then use their admission rules.

If your child didn't reach the score

What you can do depends on the area. Buckinghamshire runs a Selection Review for children who scored below 121. Birmingham, the CSSE and Medway don't re-mark papers. If you're refused a place after offers on 1 March, you can appeal to an independent panel: Buckinghamshire, the CSSE and Medway all describe this.
